The DeLorean Alpha5 was supposed to be a revival of an iconic name, but now the company is cutting production by more than half. The car never really felt like a true DeLorean, and to make things worse, they tried to create a fake history around it after the reveal something that didn’t sit well with longtime fans.
It’s sleek, sure, but does it actually capture the essence of the original DMC-12? The gull-wing doors look more like something off a minivan, and while the styling is modern, it lacks that distinct DeLorean edge. Meanwhile, Kat DeLorean’s DNG Motors is working on the JZD, a project that actually aims to respect the original car’s legacy and is already getting more attention from enthusiasts.
Would the Alpha5 have done better if it had leaned more into the retro DeLorean look, or was this project always going to struggle in today’s EV market?
